Kia Ora and Welcome Back!

2016 is an exciting year for Out in the Park! We will celebrate two major milestones for the queer community in New Zealand - the 30th anniversary of the Homosexual Law Reform and the 30th anniversary of the first ever Gay and Lesbian Fair in Wellington.

Historically the Gay and Lesbian Fair was set up to raise awareness about homosexuality and to build support for Homosexual Law Reform, which was then before the New Zealand Parliament. It has since grown into Wellington's famous queer fair, Out in the Park.

For the first time in 2016, Out in the Park will be held as part of the week-long Wellington Pride Festival | Tū whakahīhī e Te Whanganui-a-Tara. The Out in the Park committee is working hard to coordinate a week of events to showcase Wellington's queer and trans community and to put on a day of entertainment, fun and delicious food.

It's time to get together with your organisation, group, family, whānau and friends and be part of Pride celebrations in Wellington. We need your help to make it a week to remember! Support our artists, performers, local organisations and groups as well as our stallholders. There will be room for everything and anyone - dance parties, art exhibits, panel discussions, sports days, family events.

Together let's create a festival that will represent all the diversity of our LGBTQI+ communities and will commemorate the 30th anniversary of the Homosexual Law Reform.

For the second time in 2016 Out in the Park will kick off with the Wellington Pride Parade! The Parade is full of fabulous, fun and frolics and is open to everyone.

The Parade will take over Wellington's waterfront in style, starting at Frank Kitts Park and ending at Waitangi Park for Out in the Park. The full day fair features more than 60 stalls selling anything from clothing to jewellery to crafts to books to toys to electronics, and everything in between. You can also pick up a bite to eat with scrumptious food available, delicious drinks, and find out more about our local organisations and groups. We are catering for our Deaf punters and provide Sign Language Interpreters for Wellington Pride Parade and for the entertainment throughout the day.

The fair is famous for its free entertainment, with talented local singers, drag queens and kings, comedians, and circus performers on stage for your enjoyment.

We support all communities to come together and celebrate our diversity being visible in a fun, friendly, and open manner – it's still important.
